Schools Out For The Winter

Let’s not beat around the bush. When you are trying to keep the kids content on the holidays, you want information and you want it now. So here’s a quick and easy list for you to flick through to keep the brood entertained.

National Wool Museum winter school holiday program

Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not all about fleece at the NWM. They have activities for every week day of the holidays, and it’s all indoors which is good when the rain isn’t our friend. If your kids like dinosaurs this program is probably worth taking a look at. After visiting the National Wool Museum, stretch the legs with a walk along the Geelong Waterfront spotting Bollards.

Geelong Gallery

With a bunch of events on for all the family, take a look here for all that's on offer. Try Super Box Friends, In association with touring exhibition, People Like Us which captures universal aspects of the contemporary human condition in film, animation, digital and interactive art, the Geelong Gallery is hosting creative duo, Cake Industries. In this 1.5 hour workshop kids will learn how to build their own box robot. Suitable for 6-12 year olds.

Boom Gallery School Holiday Program (July 4- 8)

Running a range of fun and creative workshops for kids during the School Holidays such as Paint your own selfie or Make your own mask. The kids will be inspired and excited to participate and use the creative part of their brains. Remember there is a cafe in the gallery so parents can enjoy a spot of lunch while waiting. All Aboard

Searoad Ferries

While parents enjoy a coffee on board the ferry, the children will love the choice of activities as they travel the seas. Meet live aquatic creatures, create sand art or be entertained by Tommy Terrific balloon artist. Amongst all that, keep one eye out for a possible dolphin swimming by. See all the details here.

Bellarine Railway

With heritage trains and on-board magicians and magic workshops, you'll on on track for a chugging lot of fun with Bellarine Railway throughout the holidays.

Portarlington Miniature Railway

Take a ride on the Miniature Railway over the school holidays, situated at the Portarlington Bayside Family Park. With its natural beach side setting, it makes an ideal family outing. Bring a picnic or fire up the free electric barbecue facilities. The park includes ample free parking, kids playground, public toilets and a view across the bay to the You Yangs. The train runs every Sunday from 11am to 4pm, plus over the winter school holidays it will also run on Wednesday June 29 and July 6th. Starting 11am until 4pm.

Outdoor Adventures

Wild Nights at Werribee Open Range Zoo

A must-do winter tradition, Wild Nights offers a range of activities for all night owls, including dazzling fire shows, marshmallow toasting, late night animal spotting and a Secret Garden to discover. Introduce yourselves to some special, native nocturnal species in Bandicoot Hideout; but remember to whisper... they'll just be waking up! And if you’re really quiet, you might just see an Eastern Barred Bandicoot. Runs throughout the school holidays (25 June - 9 July).

Soldier on to Fort Queenscliff

Get to dress up in Military Uniforms and learn about the history of Fort Queenscliff, go into underground tunnels and see the black lighthouse, one of only three in the world. Tours 1pm and 3pm each day of the school holidays great holiday fun. Naturally, if heading down to Queenscliff with the family, leave time for some fish and chips.

Point Londsdale Lighthouse Tours

With remarkable views across the notorious Rip, let the kids discover the stories of the ships and sea pilots which ply these waters, and the dramas of the early shipwrecks. Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Tours will be run on Sunday mornings during the school holidays. Bookings essential on 0419 513 007. Half-hourly tours. Children must be at least 5yrs old (+95cms high) to do the tours.

Swing into Lonsdale Golf Club

Get active and outdoors with your budding golfers at Lonsdale Golf Club. Enjoy the fresh air of Point Lonsdale, soak up the nature and turn off all devices. Kids under 16 play free all school holidays with a paying parent. Available every day over the school holidays except Wednesdays and Saturdays.

And something a little different..

Keep the kids active and test their skills at the "Disco Roller Rink" at Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre . Operating from 11am to 2pm. Running everyday until 10 July.
